The Ministry of Culture runs the country’s cultural and artistic life: the Uzbek National Academic Drama Theatre, the Alisher Navoi Opera and Ballet Theatre, the State Philharmonic, the centres of maqom and bakhshi art, the State Conservatory and the Academy of Choreography, and the national libraries belong to its system. On 25 December 2023 the former Ministry of Culture and Tourism was split and the ministry took its current name.
For visitors the ministry means theatre and concert seasons, international festivals such as Sharq Taronalari, and Navruz celebrations. Tangible heritage sites — monuments and museums — fall under the separate Cultural Heritage Agency.
Regional culture departments and district cultural centres operate nationwide. The head office is in Tashkent on Amir Temur Avenue.
