About

The Central Bank was established in 1991 and is an independent body accountable to the Senate of the Oliy Majlis. Its main task is the stability of the national currency, the som, and price stability: it conducts monetary policy under inflation targeting, sets the policy rate, licenses and supervises banks and payment systems, and manages international reserves.

Practical points for travellers: the Central Bank publishes official exchange rates daily at cbu.uz; currency exchange takes place at commercial banks and their branches, foreign currency can be exchanged freely in Uzbekistan and ATMs dispense som. Complaints about banking services go to the contact centre 1800.

The main building is on Islam Karimov Street in Tashkent; every region has a main department of the Central Bank.
