About

The Ministry of Sports was formed in January 2024 from the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sports, with youth affairs passing to the separate Youth Affairs Agency. The ministry is responsible for preparing national teams, supporting the Olympic and Paralympic movement, running sports schools and schools of higher sporting excellence, and managing sports facilities.

Uzbekistan is known worldwide for boxing, kurash wrestling, judo, taekwondo and gymnastics; the Olympic Town in Tashkent is both the ministry’s seat and a venue for major international competitions. Mass events such as the Tashkent Marathon and the Samarkand Half Marathon are held across the country.

Regional sports departments operate in every region. The ministry is located in the Olympic Town in Tashkent’s Yashnobod district.
