A summit of the Hisor Range on the Tajik border. Surveyed in 1980 at 4,643 m, it is officially the highest point in Uzbekistan.
Khazret Sultan rises in the north-east of Surkhandarya Region, on the Hisor Range along the border with Tajikistan’s Sughd Region. In Soviet times it was called the Peak of the 22nd Congress of the CPSU. A Soviet survey in 1980 put its height at 4,643 m, making it Uzbekistan’s highest point.
A 2025 study in Progress in Physical Geography suggested that the neighbouring Alpomish peak, measured by the mountaineer Eric Gilbertson, may be higher, but as of December 2025 Uzbek officials still listed Khazret Sultan as the summit of the country. In 2022 the Yuqori Topalang National Nature Park was created in the upper reaches of the Topalang river.
