Creation

Pop National Nature Park was established by Resolution No. 93 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan on 4 March 2022, the same act that created the Aralkum, Omonqoton, Upper Topalang and Bobotog national parks. It occupies forest-fund land of the Pop specialised state forestry. Its 10,000 hectares are divided into a 6,000-hectare strict reserve zone, 3,000 hectares for recreation and 1,000 hectares for economic use.

Under the resolution, the national parks were set up to protect, restore and increase rare and endangered plant and animal species and forest resources in mountain and foothill areas, and to develop ecotourism on forest land. The park's founder is the State Forestry Committee.

Nature and visiting

The park lies in the northern, mountainous part of Pop District, which borders Kyrgyzstan and sits at the foot of the Chatkal mountains. The mountains of Namangan Region support juniper woods, wild cherry, apple and walnut groves, with subalpine meadows — summer pastures — higher up, home to the Siberian ibex and the marmot. The recreation zone is meant for walking and relaxation, while access to the reserve zone is restricted. Details of visiting rules and routes are available on the park's official website.
