A mountain village in Forish District on the slopes of the Nuratau range, known for the Ukhumsoy valley, homestays, rock art and a spring sumalak festival.
Ukhum lies on the northern slope of the Nuratau range in the valley of the Ukhumsoy stream. The stream rises 2 km north-west of the Ukhum pass (1,300 m) as the Karasoy and takes the name Ukhumsoy after joining the Tikchasoy near Middle Ukhum; it runs for 28 km. The village is close to the Nurata nature reserve and, together with neighbouring Asraf and other hamlets, forms the Ukhum mahalla. Ukhum and neighbouring Asraf have more than a dozen family guesthouses, and a Friday mosque stands in the village centre. Mountain roads lead south-west towards Nurata in Navoiy Region.
Ukhum is being developed as a tourist village: stay in a family guesthouse, eat home cooking and tandoor-baked bread, and get a feel for life in a mountain community. Around it are walking trails, springs, the ruins of old forts and petroglyphs showing people and animals. Old irrigation channels and stone walls among the walnut groves add to the village's character.
In April 2026 Ukhum hosted the Sumalak Sayli festival to promote the region's tourism, with craft displays, suzani and embroidery, performances by the Bogdon Gullari folk ensemble and traditional dishes. Spring is the loveliest time to come, when the slopes are green and the streams are full.
