Travel tips
Registration on arrival
Every foreign visitor must be registered at their place of stay within three days of arrival. Hotels do it automatically; in a private home the host registers you via E-mehmon.
The rule
All foreign citizens in Uzbekistan must be registered at their temporary address. A 2023 amendment to the regulation approved by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 593 of 28 September 2020 set a single deadline: three days.
This applies whether you entered visa-free or on a visa. Children under 16 are registered together with their parents or accompanying adults.
Hotels, hostels and yurt camps
Hotels, hostels, guesthouses and yurt camps enter your passport details into the E-mehmon electronic system at check-in — all you need to do is hand over your passport.
Keep any registration slips or electronic confirmations, bookings and receipts until you leave. They are rarely checked, but if a question ever comes up, they are your best proof.
Spent a night on a sleeper train? Hold on to the ticket — it shows where you were that night.
Staying with friends or in a rented flat
In a private home, your host registers you: the emehmon.uz website has a section for private individuals that allows online registration of a guest for up to 30 days. The Interior Ministry's migration and citizenship offices can also do it.
If you rent an apartment by the night, ask the owner in advance to register you. Both the guest and the host can be held responsible for a breach.
Good to know
Hotel bills may show a separate line for the tourist levy — this is a legal charge.
Each time you move to a new place you are registered again; hotels handle this themselves.
Rules change from time to time. For long stays or private accommodation, check the current procedure with the migration service or your hosts.
