A Soviet-era ski area a few kilometres from Chimgan on the slopes of Mount Kumbel, with a long chairlift and views towards Lake Charvak.
The Beldersay ski area lies 5–7 km from Chimgan on the slopes of Mount Kumbel (roughly 2,200–2,300 m). The Beldersay stream that gives it its name rises on the south-western flank of Greater Chimgan at about 2,250 m and runs for 23 km. The chairlift was built in the mid-1980s and is more than 3 km long; its second stage climbs to the weather station on the summit of Kumbel at around 2,300 m.
For years Beldersay was known for the longest ski run in the country. The slopes face north, so the snow lasts into March. There is plenty of off-piste terrain, but because of avalanche risk it should only be skied with a guide.
In summer the lift carries visitors to the top of Kumbel, with Greater Chimgan on one side and Lake Charvak on the other; you can walk back down. Since the new Amirsoy resort opened next door, plans have been announced to link Beldersay and Chimgan with it into a single ski area in the future.
