About the museum

Opened in 1983, the museum occupies Urgench’s first post office of 1910. Its permanent display of about 3,000 paintings, graphic works and sculptures by more than 200 artists of many schools is arranged in four halls — sculpture, Khorezmian masters, graphics and contemporary art — with a library and an auction room. Joint exhibitions have been held with artists from Japan, China, Poland, Switzerland, Italy, the United States and elsewhere. Two branches in Urgench complete the picture: the Lazgi Museum and the house-museum of the musician Komiljon Otaniyozov.
