About the complex

Finished in 2000 on Al-Khwarizmi Street near Urgench International Airport, with the Abu Rayhan al-Biruni complex opposite, the memorial has two parts: a symbolic mausoleum under a blue-tiled dome, reached through a distinctive gateway and a passage flanked by two rooms, and an orchard garden. Inscriptions and ornament cover the façade, a carved door marks the entrance, and inside is a small exhibition on al-Khwarizmi. Renovated in 2018, it was listed as national cultural heritage in 2019. Both “algebra” and “algorithm” derive from al-Khwarizmi’s book and name.
