Events
A creative settlement on the Barsa-Kelmes salt flat, 200 km from Nukus: large art installations, yurts and tents, and community life without commerce.
The Tourism Committee and the team behind the Stihia festival of electronic music, art and science scheduled Yonar for 17–19 September 2026 on the Barsa-Kelmes salt flat, about 200 km from Nukus. The concept is close to Burning Man — a creative settlement and an exhibition of art installations, with at least five large installations planned for the first edition.
Participants live in traditional yurts or tents, with power from generators. Its defining feature is the complete absence of trade: everything needed for living and creating is provided and shared by the community itself. The organisers see it as a way to present Karakalpakstan as a centre of culture and innovation.
