Events
A biennial festival of epic singers that moves to a new region each time: Termez 2019, Karakalpakstan 2021, Syrdarya 2023, Khiva 2025.
The International Festival of Bakhshi Art was first held in Termez on 5–10 April 2019 under UNESCO patronage, and it was decided to hold it every two years. Each edition moves to a different region: the Republic of Karakalpakstan in 2021, Syrdarya Region in 2023, and the fourth festival in Khiva on 26–28 April 2025, under UNESCO and ICESCO patronage.
Bakhshis and epic singers from Uzbekistan’s regions and abroad compete, alongside an academic conference, regional pavilions and concerts. Since bakhshi art joined UNESCO’s list in 2021, the festival has become an important stage for epic performers from around the world.
