The Chortangi gorge in Zaamin National Park: a canyon 500 metres wide and up to 450 metres deep, with a waterfall at the bottom and nesting bearded vultures.
The Chortangi gorge is one of the most dramatic sights in Zaamin National Park. According to the National Encyclopedia of Uzbekistan it is 500 metres wide and up to 450 metres deep, with a waterfall at the bottom. Look out for the bearded vulture, a large Red Book bird of prey. The gorge cuts through juniper forest, and the waterfall is at its fullest in spring when the snow melts.
Park trails lead to the gorge, and its sheer cliffs and views from the rim are popular with photographers. The path can be rocky and slippery, so wear sturdy boots.
