The juniper forests of 'Uzbek Switzerland'

A mountain resort on the edge of Zaamin National Park: the Soviet-era Zaamin sanatorium, Wyndham hotels, a 2,102-metre cable car and a suspension bridge 150 metres above the ground.
The Zaamin sanatorium is a mountain-climate resort on the northern slope of the Turkestan Range, at about 2,000 metres and right on the edge of the protected area. Its large, futuristic building dates from the 1970s and still operates, and for years it served as a base for climbers heading for Shaukartau and Tokalichuk. Next to it is a small market selling local cheese and herbs, along with several cafes, and trails into the national park start here.
In 2021 a presidential decree declared Zaamin a special tourism and recreation zone. In 2023 the Swiss firm Bartholet built an eight-seater gondola here: 2,102 metres long with a vertical rise of 530 metres, its 36 cabins carry up to 1,200 people an hour. As of 2025 the zone has Wyndham-branded hotels, a wellness centre and a suspension bridge 305 metres long and 150 metres high.
Further plans include a second cable car up to 3,100 metres, ski runs, a golf course, an ice rink, swimming pools and an 8-hectare entertainment complex. Ski facilities are not yet fully up and running, so check before a winter trip. The Suffa radio observatory and the trails of Zaamin National Park are nearby.
