A working Orthodox church in Gulistan: a mud-brick prayer house built in under a year in 1945 and consecrated to St Nicholas in 1955.
In 1890 a large baked-brick church holding at least a hundred worshippers was built in the village of Gulistan, but it was demolished in the 1930s. In 1945 a new prayer house was approved; built of mud brick in less than a year, it opened on 9 November 1945.
In 1955 it was registered as a church and consecrated to St Nicholas, and in 1957 a porch was added and crosses raised. Today it is an active church of the Tashkent and Uzbekistan diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.
