The museum
The Sirdaryo Regional State Museum of History and Culture stands in the centre of Gulistan, close to the music and drama theatre and the main square. The city administration lists it, as the local history museum, among Gulistan’s main sights, and reference works on the region mention a Museum of the History of the Development of the Hungry Steppe in the city.
Sirdaryo Region combines ancient lands on the border of Ustrushana and Chach with new towns built on the steppe in the 19th and 20th centuries, and the museum is the natural place to begin exploring that long and unusual story.
