Mosque · Yunusabad District
A Friday mosque opened in October 2014 for more than 2,400 worshippers, with twin minarets, a sky-blue dome and painted naqsh decoration.
The decision to build the mosque was taken at state level; work began in summer 2013 and took just over a year, funded by the state budget and the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan. It opened on 1 October 2014, on the eve of Eid al-Adha, and quickly became one of Tashkent's largest religious centres. It stands on the bank of the Ankhor canal near Minor metro station.
Built in a traditional Eastern and Uzbek style, the mosque has two minarets and a sky-coloured dome. The prayer hall is painted in the naqsh manner, and the mihrab carries hadiths as well as Quranic verses. It holds more than 2,400 worshippers and has modern ablution rooms.
