Madrasa · Qarshi City
A madrasa built in 1911 (AH 1329) by Bekmurodboy, known locally as Bekmir Qozoq, on the north side of Registan Square, the main square of the Qarshi citadel.
It was built by Bekmurodboy of the Mangit clan, known in town as Bekmir Qozoq, hence the name. A marble plaque beneath the portal records in Persian the names of the patron and the architect and the date, AH 1329, i.e. 1911.
Built in Bukhara style without tiles, of long fired bricks, it measures 24 × 20.5 m around a 12.1 × 11.8 m courtyard. Classrooms flank the entrance and 23 cells line the courtyard, lit through carved ganch grilles above the doors. The portal is modest, topped at the sides by small domes of patterned brick.
