Odina Mosque
Qarshi’s oldest building, now a memorial museum
Madrasa · Qarshi City
A compact two-storey madrasa built in 1914 by the wealthy Qarshi merchant Qilichboy. A prison in 1925–1938, it has housed a library and museum since 2021.
The madrasa was built in 1914, under Emir Said Alim Khan, with funds from the influential Qarshi notable Qilichboy; some sources give 1911. The master builder Sharof Bukhari worked on it, and at first it taught young men from the surrounding villages.
From 1925 to 1938 it served as a prison where Jadid reformers, intellectuals and ordinary people arrested in Kashkadarya and neighbouring regions were interrogated; the madrasa’s own teachers and students were also detained. Restored in 2021, it now houses a library and museum run by the Oltin Meros (Golden Heritage) foundation.
It is small: a two-storey portal block, a compact octagonal courtyard that once had a pool in the middle, and eleven cells.
