About the park

Bobotog National Nature Park was established in 2022 in Uzun District in the east of Surkhandarya Region and covers 12,064 ha. The Bobotog (Babatag) is a mountain ridge dividing the Surkhandarya and Kofarnihon valleys along the Uzbek–Tajik border, and it is known as one of the homes of the Bukhara markhor, a screw-horned wild goat. The park was created to protect the habitat of the markhor and other wildlife and to develop ecotourism.

On the same day in March 2022 the Yuqori Topalang National Nature Park was created in Sariosiyo District; together the two parks extended the protected-area network in Surkhandarya’s mountains and opened new routes for travellers.
