History and architecture

The complex stands on the bank of the Namangansoy and is associated with Mulla Bozor Okhund, a leading 17th-century scholar and teacher of the poet Boborahim Mashrab. The earlier brick madrasa and small mausoleum were demolished in the 1930s. In 1990 local residents began rebuilding through communal hashar work; the foundation of the main gate was laid on 25 December 1993 and the work was finished on 18 May 1994. The design was by the architect Odiljon Qodirov, and the builders were led by usta Turgunboy Fozilov, son of master Fozil Namangoniy, and Nematulla Qochqorov. The complex includes a mosque for 3,000 worshippers (main hall 30 by 24 metres), a 16-metre minaret and a 24-metre multi-faceted mausoleum. Since 2006 it has been protected as a cultural heritage site of local importance.
