Museum · Mirzo Ulugbek District
A memorial museum (1994) in the house where dancer and singer Tamara Khanum spent her last years, filled with stage costumes from around the world.
Tamara Khanum reshaped the performance of Uzbek women's dance and was also a singer, choreographer and collector of folk song and dance, with more than 500 songs in 86 languages in her repertoire. An exhibition of her costumes opened in 1986, while she was still alive, and became a memorial museum in 1994.
Most of the display is concert costumes gathered on tour or given by admirers — national dress from Uzbekistan, Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Egypt, India, Korea, China, Indonesia and beyond — including gifts from Mao Zedong and Jawaharlal Nehru.
