Hotel Uzbekistan rises at 45 Mahtumquli Street, directly opposite Amir Timur Square. It was built in 1969–1974 to a design by a team led by architect Ilya Merport and opened in October 1974. The western façade of the 17-storey block is covered by a concrete sun-screen, a panjara lattice blown up to the scale of the entire wall, which also softens the light inside the rooms. The building is regarded as one of the main architectural symbols of Soviet Tashkent and since 2024 has been on the national register of cultural heritage sites.

It still works as a hotel, with restaurants and a bar, a gym and parking, and breakfast is served. Amir Timur Square metro station is only about 120 m away and the Timurid History Museum around 430 m. Reviews most often mention the location, the interiors and the views from the windows.
