A madrasa built in 1905 by Khorezm’s chief judge, Muhammad Salih Akhund. It now houses a museum of the history of Khorezmian music.
Khorezm’s chief qadi (qozi kalon), Muhammad Salih Akhund, built this madrasa in 1905 under Muhammad Rahim Khan II, between the Juma Mosque and the Matniyoz Devonbegi Madrasa. Noted Khorezmian masters worked on it, among them Khudoybergan Haji, Kalandar Kochum, Matchon Kulimov, Bogbek Abdurahmonov and the potter Vais. The founder’s son, Boboakhun Salimov, became the first commissar of justice of the Khorezm People’s Soviet Republic. Today the building holds a museum of Khorezmian music, with instruments, notation and material on musicians from early times to the present.
