A shrine in Vobkent District: the grave of Mahmud Anjir Fagnavi, successor of Khoja Arif Revgari and third of Bukhara’s Seven Pirs, with a mosque, a pool and a garden.
Khoja Mahmud Anjir Fagnavi was born in the late 12th or early 13th century in Anjir Fagna, today’s Anjirbog, near Vobkent. He was a craftsman, described in the sources as a plasterer or a carpenter. A pupil of Khoja Arif Revgari, he took over the Khwajagan chain after his master’s death and practised the vocal zikr alongside the silent one. A story in the Rashahat says that Khoja Ali Romitani became his disciple on the advice of Khizr.
Fagnavi was buried in his home village; the sources date his death to 1286 or to 1315–1317. The mausoleum over his grave was restored after independence, and a Friday mosque, a pool, a well and a large garden were laid out beside it. In 2019 the grave, dated to the 16th century, was placed under state protection.
