Pilgrimage site · Shofirkon District
A shrine in Shofirkon over the grave of the Sufi Khoja Arif Revgari, called Mohitobon, the disciple and successor of Abdulkhaliq Gijduvani and second of Bukhara’s Seven Pirs.
Khoja Muhammad Arif al-Revgari was born in the 12th century in the village of Revgar near Gijduvan. After studying in Bukhara he became a disciple of Abdulkhaliq Gijduvani and led the Khwajagan community after his master’s death. In his later years, the sources say, he favoured the vocal zikr and taught it to his successor, Mahmud Anjir Fagnavi. Legend has it that he lived to 150; his death is variously dated to 1219, 1236 or 1262.
Revgari was buried in Shofirkon. In 2019 his grave, dated to the 17th century, was entered on Uzbekistan’s national list of immovable cultural heritage and placed under state protection. The complex also has a Friday mosque named after him.
