The saint and his shrine

Khoja Muhammad Bobo Samosi was born in the 13th century in Samos near Romitan and made his living as a gardener. He studied under Khoja Ali Romitani and led the Khwajagan chain after his death. Legend has it that, passing the village of Qasr-i Hinduvan, he foretold that a great man would be born there and that the village would be called the “castle of the knowers”. When Bahauddin Naqshband was born, Samosi accepted the infant as his spiritual son, entrusted his upbringing to his deputy Sayyid Amir Kulol and gave him his own kulah cap.

Samosi died in 1354 and was buried in his home village. The mausoleum over his grave, the mosque and a stone well were restored after independence, and a garden was laid out around them. The grave, dated to the 16th century, has been under state protection since 2019.
