Ulugh Beg Observatory
The greatest astronomical instrument of the Middle Ages
Plov centre · Samarkand
A plov centre near the Ulugh Beg Observatory: no menu, starters arrive on a trolley, and Samarkand plov is served at lunchtime and again in the evening.
Oshqand is in the east of the city, about 1.2 km south-east of the Ulugh Beg Observatory. It does one dish — Samarkand plov. There is no menu: a waiter wheels over a trolley of salads, pickles and yoghurt-based starters for you to choose from, and the plov arrives with a board and knife so the meat can be carved at the table.
Unlike many plov centres, it cooks several kazans through the day, so there is plov even in the evening — reviewers say the evening batch goes out around 17:30. Staff are happy to show guests the kitchen, and you settle the bill at the till.
Information checked: October 2026. Prices and hours can change — call ahead before you go. We do not take bookings: contact the venue directly.
