Qorovulbozor District
Created in 1993, Qorovulbozor is the region's least populous district, home to the Bukhara oil refinery and 16th-century sardoba cisterns.
About the district
Qorovulbozor District was created on 12 January 1993. It borders Qashqadaryo Region's Muborak District to the south, Olot to the west, Bukhara District to the north and Navoiy Region's Qiziltepa District to the east. Its centre is the town of Qorovulbozor, about 45 km south-east of Bukhara, and its people come from some 15 nationalities.
Industry here grew with the discovery of the Setalantepa, Saritosh, Oʻrtabuloq and Koʻkdumaloq gas and oil fields, and the Bukhara oil refinery operates in the district. Sixteenth-century sardobas — domed water cisterns — survive in Qorovulbozor and the village of Boʻzachi. The district also has the Khadicha sanctuary and lakes formed by drainage water. On 1 January 2026 it had 20,700 residents, the fewest in the region.
