About the district

Shofirkon borders Vobkent to the south, Romitan to the south-west, Peshku to the west, Gijduvan to the east and Navoiy Region's Konimex District to the north. It was created in 1926 (some sources say the 1930s), abolished in 1963 and restored in 1968. The land is mostly plain and dunes, rising in the north to the foothills of the Kuljuktau and the Kyzylkum. Its centre is the town of Shofirkon, about 39 km north of Bukhara.

The district has 28 archaeological and 3 architectural monuments, the best known being Vardanze, former capital of the Vardan Khudahs (part of a UNESCO site since 2023), and the shrine of Khoja Arif Revgari, the second master of the Khwajagan. Shofirkon is the birthplace of the philosopher Ibrohim Muminov (1908–1974) and the actor Razzoq Hamroyev (1910–1981), a People's Artist of the USSR. On 1 January 2026 the district had 189,900 residents.
