Stihia festival of electronic music, art and science
An open-air festival born on the dry bed of the Aral Sea, amid the ship graveyard of Moynaq: electronic music, an ecology forum and art.
About the festival
Stihia is an annual festival combining electronic music, art and science. It was born in the open air on the dried-up bed of the Aral Sea, among the ship graveyard of Moynaq — a setting chosen to draw attention to the region’s ecological disaster. Only once, in 2023, did it move, to a desert near Bukhara. Over three days dozens of acts play several stages, scientists and experts debate ecology at a forum, and there are fairs of national dress and crafts.
Guests stay in a tent city; desert nights can drop to 5–10°C, so pack warm clothes. In 2026 the Stihia team and the Tourism Committee also launched a new festival, Yonar, on the Barsa-Kelmes salt flat.
