Overview

A district centred on the village of Qorasuv was formed here on 29 September 1926, renamed Voroshilov District in 1932 and moved to the new Andijan Region in 1941; Kurgantepa District was split off from it in 1953. It is the easternmost district of Uzbekistan, bordering Jalaquduq and Khojaobod districts and, on its other sides, Kyrgyzstan.

It has two towns, the centre Kurgantepa and the border town of Qorasuv, plus the small towns of Dardoq and Sultonobod. The land is a foothill slope falling from about 1,000 metres in the east to 500 metres in the west, with the Toshokhur and Suzoq hills. The Kara Darya, the Shahrikhansoy, the Qoragunon ditch and the Savay canal cross it, and annual rainfall is 250–400 mm.

There is a local history museum, parks and a memorial square, and its border position has made trade and services important.
