Buston District

A small district in the west of the region, called Boz until 2019: a plain watered by the Great Fergana and Great Andijan canals, with shifting sand hills in the west.

Overview

The district was set up on 5 April 1950 as Boz District, belonged to Shahrikhan District in 1962–1964 and was renamed Buston on 30 September 2019. Its centre is the small town of Buston, formerly Boz. It borders three Andijan districts and the Yozyovon, Qoshtepa and Kuva districts of Fergana Region.

The land is a plain at about 500 metres, with shifting sand hills in the west and marshy hollows between them. Fields are irrigated by the Great Fergana Canal, the Great Andijan Canal and the Shahrikhansoy, and the high water table has left some soils salty. The district falls into three tracts: East Yozyovon, the Great Fergana Canal and Ulugnor. A statue of Babur and an alley of poets in the town centre have become local landmarks.
