Buloqboshi District

Created in 1992, one of the region's youngest and smallest districts: the foothills of the Chilustun range, loess hills and the Aravansoy valley.

Overview

Buloqboshi District was carved out of its neighbours in April 1992. It borders the Andijan and Khojaobod districts to the north and east, Asaka and Marhamat to the west, and the Aravan district of Kyrgyzstan's Osh Region to the south. Its centre is the town of Buloqboshi, and confusingly it also contains a small town called Andijan.

The district sits at the foot of the Chilustun mountains, between 800 and 1,545 metres. Its landscape of foothill plains and loess hills is watered by the South Fergana Canal and the Aravansoy. In spring the hills bloom with ephemeral flowers and chukar and quail are common, while springs such as Shirmonbuloq are favourite picnic spots. The name itself means 'head of the spring'.
