Zafarobod District
A flat district north of the regional capital, on the western Hungry Steppe and the north-eastern foothills of the Nuratau, with cotton and grain fields.
Overview
The district was created on 12 April 1973 in Syrdarya Region as October District, moved to the new Jizzakh Region that December and renamed Zafarobod on 30 July 1993. Its centre is the small town of Zafarobod. It borders the Sharof Rashidov, Arnasoy, Dustlik, Forish and Pakhtakor districts.
It lies in the western Hungry Steppe, with part of it reaching the north-eastern foothills of the Nuratau. The land is mostly flat with loess loams, irrigated by the South Hungry Steppe Canal; a network of drains copes with the shallow, brackish groundwater. July averages 26–28°C and rainfall is 250–280 mm a year.
Most people work in cotton and grain farming, and the district has 10 mahallas.
