Overview

Zomin District was created on 29 September 1926 and was part of Jizzakh District in 1962–1964. Its centre is the small town of Zomin, and the nearest railway station is Dashtobod, 20 km to the north. It borders the Zarbdor, Bakhmal, Sharof Rashidov and Yangiobod districts and, to the south-east, Tajikistan. Zomin is the home district of Uzbekistan's president, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The north and centre are flat, while the south-west climbs through foothills to the high peaks of the Turkestan Range, drained by the Zominsuv, the Peshagorsoy and other streams.

Tourism

Dense juniper forests cover the mountains, protected by the Zaamin nature reserve and national park, which in 2024 joined UNESCO's Tentative List as the 'Zomin Mountains'. The hotels, cable car and suspension bridge of the Zomin tourist zone, the Suffa radio observatory and a local museum in a 1909 building have made the district the region's main tourist centre.
