Devona Buva Mausoleum
Shrine of a 'holy fool' teacher and healer
district · Namangan Region
A densely populated district between Namangan and Uchqurgan: an oasis watered by the Naryn and canals, and the 18th-century Devona Buva Mausoleum.
Uychi District was formed in June 1935. It covers about 310 km², and its centre is the town of Uychi on the Namangan–Uchqurgan highway. The land is mostly flat, with foothills in the north-east. The Naryn river and the North Fergana and Great Namangan canals cross the district, whose soils are light sierozems and alluvium.
It is one of the most densely populated parts of the region, with more than 242,000 residents at the start of 2026.
The Devona Buva Mausoleum in the village of Fayziobod was built in 1725–1750 over the grave of Abdurahmon Khoji, a native of Tashkent who settled in the village, taught children to read and practised medicine. In Soviet times collective-farm buildings hid the mausoleum, which is why it survived in good condition. The district has silk and textile factories and a cotton gin, and cotton and grain dominate its farming.
