A south-western district created in 1963 and entirely rebuilt after the 1966 earthquake; home to Navoi Park, Magic City and the Palace of Friendship of Peoples.
Chilanzar District was created on 4 January 1963 and rebuilt from scratch after the 1966 earthquake. Its name probably comes from the chilon jida shrub that once covered the waste ground south-west of medieval Tashkent — 'Chilonzor' means 'place where chilon grows'. It borders the Shaykhantahur, Yakkasaray, Sergeli and Uchtepa districts and the Zangiota district of Tashkent Region.
Tashkent's first metro line, opened in 1977, is named the Chilonzor line. The district had 277,000 residents on 1 October 2025.
Its north-eastern corner runs into the city centre, with Alisher Navoi National Park, the Oliy Majlis (parliament), the Abulkasim Madrasah, the Magic City amusement park and the UNESCO-listed Palace of Friendship of Peoples.
