Location and history

The district was created on 7 December 1970 from parts of three others as Sabir Rakhimov District. On 4 December 2010 the Senate renamed it Olmazor (Almazar), reviving the name of one of the four historic quarters of the city formed in the 18th century; the Old City's Labzak, Takhtapul and Karasaray gates stood on its territory.

With 416,800 residents on 1 October 2025 it is Tashkent's most populous district.

What to see

Its star sight is the Hazrati Imam Complex in the Old City — the Barakhan Madrasah, Kaffal Shashi Mausoleum, Tillya Sheikh Mosque and the Center for Islamic Civilization, opened in 2026, which now keeps the Uthman Quran. Old City mahallas line Zarqaynar Street, and Victory Park, opened in 2020, lies in the north of the district.
