Taxiatosh District
A small district south of Nukus, carved out of Khojeyli in 2017 and centred on Taxiatosh, an industrial and power-generating town on the Amu Darya.
Setting and history
Taxiatosh District was created on 9 August 2017 from part of Khojeyli District; Taxiatosh had previously been a town of republican status. It lies south of Nukus on the Amu Darya, with 91.8 km of boundary, 36.1 km of it with Turkmenistan and the rest with Khojeyli District and Nukus. By OSM boundaries it covers about 194 km², and it had 77,800 residents in 2026.
Taxiatosh is one of Karakalpakstan’s energy centres, home to the Takhiatash thermal power station. The town has a park named after the poet Ajiniyaz, and Nukus and Mizdahkan are half an hour’s drive away.
