Setting and nature

Qibray District was created on 1 December 1933 and was called Ordzhonikidze District until 1991. Merged with Kalinin (now Zangiota) District in 1962, it was restored at the end of 1964. It borders Tashkent city, Yuqorichirchiq, Bostanliq and Toshkent districts and Kazakhstan. The land lies in the Chirchiq valley at 300–400 m, rising to hills in the north-east, and is crossed by the Bozsu, Zakh, Khanym and Big Karasu canals; ravines along the Bozsu are several tens of metres deep.

Today

Lying next to the capital, Qibray supplies it with vegetables, fruit, milk and poultry, and orchards and vineyards cover much of the land. The Tashkent combined heat and power plant, part of the Chirchiq hydropower cascade and the Tashkent State Agrarian University are all here. The road to Chimgan, Charvak and Amirsoy runs through the district, which also contains the Kuksaroy residence of the President of Uzbekistan.
