Setting and history

Toshkent District was created on 25 November 1975, absorbed into Zangiota District in 2011 and re-established in 2017. It borders Kazakhstan to the north, Qibray District to the east, Tashkent city to the south and Zangiota District to the west. The land is a plain in the Chirchiq and Keles valleys, with an average temperature of 13.3 °C, 370–390 mm of precipitation and a 235-day growing season. Fireclay, gravel, sand and hot mineral springs lie underground.

Today

Though small, it is among the most populous districts in the region, with about 210,000 people at the start of 2026. Livestock, vegetables, orchards, vineyards and silkworm breeding are important, and Keles has a woollen mill and building-materials plants. Keles, the district centre, adjoins the capital’s boundary.
