Yuqorichirchiq District
A district on the left bank of the Chirchiq ringed by the Chatkal Range: hills rich in medicinal herbs, canals and orchards, with Yangibozor as its centre.
Setting and history
Yuqorichirchiq District was created on 29 September 1926. It absorbed Parkent District in 1959 and Bostanliq in 1962, but Bostanliq split off again in 1964 and Parkent in 1979. It borders Bostanliq, Parkent, Ohangaron and Ortachirchiq districts, Tashkent city and Qibray District. The land is a plain on the left bank of the Chirchiq at about 550 m, enclosed to the east and north by the Chatkal Range.
Nature and economy
The climate is continental, with January averaging −1.5 to −2 °C, July 25–28 °C and 350–400 mm of precipitation. The Qorasuv and Chirchiq rivers, the Parkent and Hondam canals and several streams water the fields, and medicinal herbs such as St John’s wort, harmal, marshmallow and liquorice grow on the hills. The district centre is Yangibozor.
